Steel mills to data centers

Another quip on industrial to knowledge economy, cf. “software is eating the world”, “data is the new oil”:

We Used to Build Steel Mills Near Cheap Sources of Power, but Now That’s Where We Build Datacenters

Aluminum mill location is more dominated by electricity cost than is steel mill location (discussion), but either or more generally heavy industry facilities as paradigmatic of industry-as-commanding-heights, data centers as paradigmatic of knowledge-as-commanding-heights can be exploited to illustrate transition, and in turn importance and high leverage of knowledge policy and structure of the knowledge economy.
